Andonis Foniadakis

foniadakisWebAndonis Foniadakis studied classical and contemporary dance at the Greek National Ballet School, then in 1992 he pursued his training at the Rudra Béjart School in Lausanne.
In 1994 he choreographed "In Between" for the Béjart Ballet in Lausanne, then "Court Mettrage" two years later. During these two years he also performed many works by Maurice Béjart including "King Lear" and "Shéhérezade".
Alongside his career as a dancer he continued to work as a choreographer in Europe: he presented "Fila Filon" at the Cannes Dance Festival and "Lava Mana" at the Opéra de Lyon in 1999.
In 2001 his career as a choreographer continued to develop abroad : "Shadows" was shown at the Copenhagen International Festival and "In Memoriam Suberbiae" at the Athens Concert Hall. The following year he created "Solo for Email", a musical by Dominique Boivin, "Pièce Inconnue" for the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Danse de Lyon and "Handle with Care" for the National Theatre of North Greece.
He has frequently collaborated with the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève creating three pieces for their dancers: "Selon désir", "The Rite of Spring" and "Glory".
In 2012 he received the Danza e Danza award for best choreographer for his work "Les Noces" for the Maggio Danza ballet company.
In 2013 he created "Horizons" for Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet of New York.
In 2014 Foniadakis collaborated with Darren Aronofsky, director of "Black Swan", on his latest film, as well as choreographing for the Sydney Dance Company.
In 2015 Andonis Foniadakis he recreated his work "Selon désir" this time for the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
