General level with Christine Masson

This class is for anyone wishing to improve or maintain their flexibility and gain muscle strength.

The sequence of exercises allows you to  feel a deep sense of stretching by combining work on breathing and so improving general strength.
The class is accessible even to those with joint or muscle issus as the postures can be adapted to each individual's needs.
The class finishes with a relaxation technique to release all tensions after the workout.

Jazz for adults

JAZZ: born in America, this style of dance is perfectly illustrated by musicals such as  "Chorus Line" or the film  "Fame".
This class explores different styles of jazz, working with various currents in jazz music.
Such as:
New Orleans, Hot Jazz, Swing, Jazz Gitan, Bebop, Mainstream, Cool, Hard Bop, Free Jazz, Soul Jazz, Funky, Groove, Fusion, Acid Jazz, Smooth Jazz, World Jazz, Trip hop jazz, Jazz européen...
The aim is to bring a wide avriety of movement in the exercises and choreographic styles.

Floor Barre

Floor Barre classes are for adults who wish to work and understand their body by working over its controle and feeling through postural alignment and freeing of joints whilst mostly in reclining positions. The work ranges from strengthening core and limbs to freeing joints, thereby increasing movement range and precision. The class is given to music.

1 . Who are these adult classes for?

Men and women from the age of 17 can take the adult classes at the Ecole de Danse de Genève. Levels are structured from seasoned dance students to absolute beginners wishing to take their first steps into a class.Their is no maximum age to have a go.

2 . Where do classes take place?

Classes are all given at the Imprimerie, 6 rue du Pré-Jérôme

3. What do I have to wear for ballet classes?

There is no strict dance wear code but you might like to follow this advice: teachers prefer to be able to see your knees and ankles. So some wear tights and a leotard whilst others might wear a t-shirt and slim track-suit pants. Bare feet are not advised. You may start in socks but eventually it is a good idea to have ballet shoes.

4. What do I wear for the other classes?

Any comfortable sports wear that allows you freedome of movement.

5. Can I take a trial class?

Yes. a trial class costs CHF 26.-.

6. Do I have to book a trial class?

No, you just have to pay for your class at the office before hand.

7. When can I join?

Subscriptions to the adult section are possible through out the year.

8. How much does it cost?

The annual subscription is CHF 30.-
10 class card, valid 4 months : CHF 260.- / CHF 210.- (students)
20 class card, valid 4 months : CHF 470.- / CHF 370.- (students)
Single class : CHF 30.- / CHF 10.- (professionals)

9. Can I use my class card for several other styles?

Yes the card's only limitation is the 4 month period.

10. Can I watch a class before taking part?

For the comfort of those taking the class, we do not allow people to watch. We advise to have a go as this allows you to get a better idea of the class.

11. Is there any pointe-work involved in the ballet classes?

Pointe-work is for advanced students and who have the necessary strenght in their legs and feet.The adult ballet classe therefore do not cater for pointework.

12. Do adult students take part in the Ecole de Danse de Genève performances?

No, adult students are not expected to go on stage.

Contemporary for adults

Elementary/intermediate with Emilio Artessero Quesada
The class is based on th a technique called "release" and is aimed at students wishing to tackle and develop dancing in a non academic way.

Beginner with Thomas Queyrens
The class takes its inspiration Ballet Junior de Genève training.

Ballet for adults

Three levels of Ballet are on offer:

Beginners (débutant)
to start learning the basics of classical ballet without having necessarily taken class before.
Wednesdays at 6:30 PM with Giuseppe Bucci

Elementary (débutant/moyen)
for those who have already covered the basics and wish to learn more. The level of class is adapted according to its participants.
Mondays at 7:30PM with Valérie Bouvard
Tuesdays at 12:30 with Pauline Borreau
Fridays at 7:15 PM with Giuseppe Bucci

Intermediate (moyen)
to continue learning the ballet vocabulary , this class means you have taken ballet for at least two years.
Wednesdays at 7:30PM with Giuseppe Bucci
Thursdays at 7.30 PM with Giuseppe Ragona

Intermediate/advanced (moyen/avancé)
for those who have practiced ballet for some years and can take a full standard class from barre to grand allegro jumps. This class is also suitable for professionals.
Tuesdays at 7:30 PM with Giuseppe Bucci

Adult courses

Several styles of dance are available to adult amateurs and professionals alike.
Ballet, contemporary, jazz, floor-barre, afro or stretch class, come and try out the different classes in our fantastic studios.

A system of pre-paid class cards allow you greater flexibility to attend classes. We understand busy life schedules and think this is a more comfortable way.

You are welcome to try a class out before commiting to any more. The class will be charged 30.-frs. You may try out as many styles as you wish.

If you wish to attend regular classes you will need to subscribe to the school with a year member card costing 30.-frs. This card will allow you to purchase pre-paid cards of 10 or 20 classes that are valid for 3 months. An extention of this period is possible at the discretion of the directors if you warn us of a prolonged inevitable absence or other critical cases. The pre-paid cards are not transferable or reimbursable. They cannot be carried onto the next season.
A single pre-paid card opens access to all adult classes.

Summer classes for adults

Les cours d'été offrent l'occasion de poursuivre ou débuter la pratique de la danse en juillet et août.
N'hésitez pas à passer la porte du studio en toute décontraction : pas d'inscription ou de réservation nécessaire, il suffit de venir simplement au cours de son choix et de le payer  - en espèce uniquement - directement au professeur au prix... estival de CHF 25.-.
Il est également possible d'acquérir une carte de 10 cours pour CHF 230.- valable en juillet et en août (mais non transmissible et non remboursable).
Revenez de temps en temps sur cette page, le programme risque de s'étoffer encore un peu d'ici juillet !
