Sean Wood trained in dance at Central School of Dance in London, directed by Christopher Gable. He trained in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Dalcroze Eurythmics. In his final year, he toured with the school company.
In 1987 he joined the Royal Ballet of Wallonie (Charleroi/Belgium) where he danced in numerous works from the company repertoire.
In 1989 he joined the Royal Ballet of Flanders (Antwerp/Belgium), directed by Robert Denvers where he danced the classics and works by Choo San Goh, Rudolph Nureyev, Balanchine, Mauricio Wainrot...
In 1995 he then joined the company french choreographer Thierry Malandain, working closely with him on all his repertoire and new pieces, creating many new roles. Sean was part of the team when the company moved to Biarritz to form the Centre Chorégraphique National de Biarritz. With the company he often participated in lecture demonstrations and workshops.
In 1999, Sean retired from the stage and became co director of the international school Ecole de Danse de Genève as well as the school's renound student company Ballet Junior de Genève. Sean teaches Ballet and compositional workshops to the final year professional course students and has the task of rehearsing many of the numerous company pieces for the 2 programmes every year along with the touring programme.
The school was accredited by the state of Geneva in 2010. Students from the Ballet Junior de Genève now work in many of the world's most exciting companies such as William Forsythe, NDT, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Hofesh Shechter company to name but a few.
Sean Wood is regularly asked as guest teacher in companies in Switzerland and courses abroad and was a jury member for the Milan dance competition in 2012.
Before completing his dance training, Sean took a 3 year course in theater design at the Central School of Art and Design in London , obtaining a BA Honours degree. He worked with the National Theater of England and designed sets for a play by Arnold Wesker in Lyon, France. He has designed many costumes for the choreographers working with Ballet Junior de Genève such as Alexander Ekman, Patrick Delcroix, Ken Ossola...
As a choreographer Sean Wood presented a piece "GO4" at the Edinburgh festival in 1999 and created several pieces for the junior company.
In February 2012, Sean Wood was asked to organise the 40th anniversary of the Prix de Lausanne, inviting some of the world's biggest Ballet Stars and devising the evening's programme. He has been a jury member for the Prix de Lausanne's candidate pre-selections for the last two years.
In January 2014 he re-staged "Clash" by Patrick Delcroix for the Baltic Dance Theatre in Gdansk (Poland).
Sean Wood has now started training for his own benefit in Ashtanga Yoga.
